In the midst of tough economic times we desperately need “God’s Stimulus Plan”. It seems like everybody is talking about how to get a sluggish economy moving again. How can we end this hideous RECESSION? Most economists agree that a recession is caused, in large part, by the lack of consumer confidence. I propose that consumer confidence relates to our beliefs and thoughts. I’m sure you have felt the results of this recession in your church. In California unemployment is just above 12%. I have painfully watched good people suffer in these tough economic times. However, as children of the Kingdom of God, are we to be subjected to this world’s system? What about God’s economy? He has spelled out His plan in the Bible. Amazingly, this decline follows the greatest move of God in our life time: The Charismatic renewal. During that movement new churches could be found in shopping centers, store fronts, movie theaters, and even in bars! The church was renewed, Christians were revived, and the mission of the church grew nationally and globally. The new generation especially is crying for a real message, real people, a Real God, and a real experience. Leonard Sweet in his book, “Post-modern Pilgrims”, affirms the openness of a young generation to real biblical truth. read more » “It was the best of times; it was the worst of times.” These words penned by Charles Dickens more than a century ago could have been written in 2011. This describes the condition of the modern Church. The greatest harvest of souls the Church has ever seen is at our doorstep. Less than 5% of American young people attend a church. Christians are now a minority, when just a few years ago we were the majority. It is the best of times for harvest, but it is the worst of times for many churches that are understaffed, underfunded, uninspired, and uninviting. read more »
